RMC EuroTrophy sets course for international start of the season in Genk
The start of the fifth season of the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Tro-phy is imminent: Next weekend, the engines will be revving again on track in Genk, Belgium. More than 225 names make up the list of participants in a total of seven categories, promising some eventful racing action for the beginning of the international series.
The upcoming weekend of April 22nd to 24th will see the duel for the first points in this year's Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy at Karting Genk – ‘Home of Champions’. The competition marks the first of a total of four rounds in the 2022 championship and is anticipated to set the trend for what’s to come as the sea-son unfolds. The second round will then take place at the end of May in Val d'Argenton, France, before the series heads back to Belgium to visit Mariembourg in early July. It’s the premiere for both venues on the RMCET calendar. The last championship points of the season will finally be awarded in mid-September in Wackersdorf, Germany.
In view of the great interest on the part of the competitors, organizer Meik Wagner from the promoter Camp Company is looking forward to an exciting event: "After another excellent season in 2021, we are once again looking forward to another fantastic year with close competition. A big thank you goes to all the drivers, teams and supporters who will be there again this season."
As per usual, the largest starting field within the RMC Euro Trophy for the opener is represented by the Senior MAX class with around 60 drivers, where the racing is always expected to be of the highest level. In addition, 40 juniors will battle it out in Genk including some rookies to the international scene. The 2-speed DD2 class has close to a full grid alongside an experienced line-up of DD2 Masters. There are 29 young-sters racing for the honours in the Mini MAX category with a slight variation in the rules for the 2022 series.
Drivers of the Rotax Project E20 E-Kart classes will bring the latest eTechnology from BRP-Rotax back the RMCET. The new E20 Junior category makes its welcome debut to join the E20 Senior category that we saw in 2021 at the championship. The E-Kart racers will compete on the demanding Genk track, as they apply their skills to experience the exhilaration of strategic racing with the E20’s boosted performance!
Of course, many participants of the RMCET this weekend will be focused on the biggest prize in the end – to win the coveted tickets for the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals 2022, which will take place in late November in Portimao, Portugal. In the Mini class, however, the overall winner will receive a ticket for entry to the RMC International Trophy at Le Mans after the rounds in Genk, Val d'Argenton and Mariembourg.
The races in Genk can also be followed online via the link at www.rotaxmaxchallenge-eurotrophy.com. The event will be broadcast live from Friday afternoon. Following the qualifying heats on Saturday, the 36 best-ranked drivers in each class will contest two finals that award equal points to determine the round winner and podium places.
