GRAND FINALS 2011 - Day 20.11.2011
Welcome to the 12th edition of the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals at Al Ain. An event that has been growing from a spectacular number of 252 drivers at La Conca, to an even more incredible 264 in 2011. The drivers have finally arrived from around 60 different countries and are more than eager to compete with the best of the world. A recent proof of how competitive the Max Challenge has become is Kevin Korjus’ F1 test drive with Renault. In 2007 Kevin has won the Junior category at the Grand Finals at the exact same place they are being held this year. We wish Kevin all the best for his upcoming challenges and we are sure there is more to come from other drivers who are part of the Rotax Max community.
With the 264 drivers also their families, mechanics and friends have arrived safely, bringing life to the dessert of Al Ain. The biggest team this year is Team Canada, which resembles more than 20 drivers from all over Canada. With their driving skills the Canadian drivers were able to take over some of the spots at the Pan Am Finals in the US, which on the downside cost the American team their anticipated spots. It will be interesting to see if Team Canada can repeat their strong performance of 2011 with two Grand Finals champions in the DD2 category.
Besides the safe arrival of the participants also all the precious equipment has made its way and is now ready to be tested to its limits. What a logistical challenge it was to bring all the necessary parts to Al Ain. But the goal to be able to supply 264 high class race machines was accomplished by due planning and the effort of a fully motivated team.
Talking about equipment. This year´s new addition to the chassis manufacturer’s lineup is Birel, the exclusive partner for the Juniors category. The lineup now includes Birel (Juniors), CRG (DD2), Haase (DD2 Masters) and Sodi (Seniors). BRP-Powertrain is happy to have such strong and reliable partners who make this outstanding event possible.
The Rotax Max family has been growing year by year and besides the serious competition for the titles, it is also the time to celebrate a great racing season with this final week full of highlights. It is also the time for BRP-Powertrain to thank everybody for being part of the community.
