Xen de Ruwe celebrates DEKM double victory in Wackersdorf

  • Luka Wlömer takes over championship leadership
  • Fast guest driver delivered thrilling fights
  • Season finale takes place in Oschersleben in October

For the third event in the 2020 season, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) was again a guest at the Prokart Raceland Wackersdorf. In alternating weather conditions, guest rider Xen de Ruwe from Slovenia won. In the fight for the title, however, Luka Wlömer took an important step to the top.

Three weeks after the first appearance in Wackersdorf, the DEKM was back in Upper Palatinate for races five and six. After lastly only sunshine, this time some heavy rain occurred and provided a new challenge for the drivers from seven nations.

The overall four races were again tight as usual and in each final guest racer, Xen de Ruwe (AKK SPORTSTIL), was at the top. In the fight for the DEKM, Luka Wlömer (ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) took the lead and travels to Oschersleben as favorite for the season finale.

Xen de Ruwe wins in pouring rain on Saturday

Joel Mesch set the best time in Saturday's qualifying on a wet track and thus had the best starting position. Unfortunately, he then experienced two bad races and played no role in the awarding of the victory anymore. In the pre-final there was a small collision between Mesch and Valentin Wiesender, through which Mesch fell back to the end of the field and finished only tenth. Wiesender, on the other hand, won his first race in the DEKM. However, he was subsequently given a spoiler penalty and was placed second behind Wlömer. Alex La Flamme (AXR Racing) concluded the top three.

In the final, Mesch made a sensational start and drove within three turns from the end of the field up to second place. But again there was a collision in the first lap and he had to chase the field again. This time de Ruwe ran a lonely race at the top. The Slovenian driver won against Wlömer and Diego Stifter (Millennium Racing Team). La Flamme had to cope with a setback, shortly before the end of the race he turned and withdrew on a safe third place.

Double win for Xen de Ruwe on Sunday

Karting old hand and guest driver Xen de Ruwe was unstoppable on a dry track on Sunday. He scored a clear victory in both races and then found only words of praise for the DEKM: "It was great fun to have been a part of the DEKM. A big thank you to all those responsible for this opportunity. Driving the electric kart is very fun and I can only recommend everyone to participate."

In the battle for the championship points, the regular drivers of the DEKM were again on an equal footing. Six pilots dueled for the front ranks in the pre-final and final. On Sunday morning, La Flamme took on the chasing position in front Elijah Alessandro Saia in the pre-final and was in the front row of the second final of the weekend. In the race, the viewers of the live stream at home were given a very close fight between the six drivers. The drivers once again underlined the high power density in the DEKM and fought fair positional battles. La Flamme finished second again, but a spoiler penalty cost the British driver a place on the podium. Saia inherited second place and was happy about his first DEKM trophy. Wlömer finished third and was quite satisfied afterwards: "Of course it is a pity not to have won again, but in view of the championship the two race days went very well. Now it only has to continue in Oschersleben like that."

Season finale in Oschersleben

The final of the German Electric Kart Championship at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben is already waiting in three weeks. After that, it is clear who will finish the third season as champion and can look forward to being supported with a series of training programmes by Porsche Motorsport and a test drive in a Porsche Cayman GT4 with Allied Racing.

The races of the DEKM will once again be accompanied by extensive reporting. On Saturday and Sunday, qualifying, as well as both races, will be broadcasted live on the online stream on
